This drawing is based on a photo that appeared on the front page of an online newspaper in an African country. I grant you, the sketch is undoubtedly perfect. One might think, at first glance, that this young man is dancing. Don’t you think so ? In reality, he’s trying to protect himself from the police batons raining down on his head just because he’s demonstrating by exercising his most basic right. Out of context, things change in appearance and meaning.
This is why I use the following idiom : There is more to the picture than meets the eye.
