“In that house were a handicapped child, who suffers from hydrocephalus, a serious neurological abnormality, his alcoholic father, his miserable mother, and Sumail, who was continuing his studies in secondary school B.  p.  In a city far from the village, where he was born and raised, forty km.  I have had the experience of saying goodbye so many times that it is hard for me to try to forget it.”

”I spent a few moments with the young child trying to entertain him but I admit that he scared me sometimes especially when he expressed his anger for reasons I did not know.  Sometimes I would help him eat too.  His mother was grateful to me for the time I spent with him.”

”If I had known I could have seen the wonderful creature and I would have gone so far, too far I couldn’t have been able to come back. But nothing happened and all of sudden a threatening short woman emerged from nowhere and the dream turned into a nightmare. I was told to leave right away. A cruel hand put an end to the sweet night and morning reveries. This happened in mid afternoon.”

”I packed my suitcase and left this place where I have been miserable all the time except for a few short moments. Where am I going to go?  The school year was coming to an end, but I had to find a place to spend what was left of it.  What sensations can a young expelled experience when awakening from his nightmare? I was in a daze and apathy. Wasn’t it also the illusion of recklessness?”.

”In my early youth, I got to know a young man my age while attending a street show and we hit it off very quickly.  Shahid and his mother had rented a large room which they used as a kitchen and a place to sleep.  This is also where Shahid did his homework and entertained his friends.  Like me, he was forced to continue his studies away from home. Shahid and his mother were kind enough to share this very modest accommodation with me.”

”I also got to know a school teacher’s son and the three of us became friends.

Unfortunately, I repeated. They consoled me like true friends can.  I moved to another high school and city and almost lost contact with them.”

“By sheer luck, I found Shahid in a cafe. I recognized him. He hadn’t changed much.  Almost a decade had passed since the day our paths parted. He became a high school English teacher. I told my friend that I am continuing my studies in a European country and I’ve got on-campus accommodation.  When you leave your hometown, will you ever have to leave your homeland? My experience brings an answer to the question. If you start leaving a place, chances are you will leave you country home.”
