قد تعرف بعض الأشجار التي تذكرك بشيء مثل قصة أو حلقة من ماضيك تتعلق بها أو تكرهها. ما دامت هناك أشجار في الروايات
ما دامت هناك أشجار. ما دامت هناك روايات. عندما أقرأ الروايات ، أحب وصف المناظر الطبيعية وخاصة الأشجار. غير قادر على إعطاء أسماء عشرات الأشجار، لكن الروائيين يجعلونني أكتشف العديد من الأصناف. غالبًا ما تكون أشجارًا قديمة مليئة بالذكريات وتعطي الانطباع بأنها كانت دائمًا هناك ، وأنها أبدية وأن البشر مدينون لها بالاحترام والامتنان.
سوف أقتبس من ثلاث روايات تحكي قصصًا بالأشجار والغابات كمحيطها. أول ما قرأته واستحوذ على فكري كان « الجذور » بقلم أليكس هالي (1921-1992). يا لها من أحداث مأساوية حدثت في الغابات بسبب ممارسة العبودية الهمجية! لقد شاهد الرجال والنساء الأفارقة بلا حول ولا قوة نهاية وحشية لحياة سلمية. العدو الذي ما كان يجب أن يديروا ظهورهم له منعهم من تحقيق أحلامهم وعبث بحياتهم . حدثت مشاهد قاسية بالقرب من هذه الأشجار.
الرواية الثانية هي « في الغابة » لجين هيجلاند. الأحداث السعيدة في هذه الرواية نادرة، وتمثل الغابة بأشجارها وحيواناتها الملاذ الأخير للشخصيات ، الأختان ، اللتان نجتا من نهاية العالم (ولكن إلى متى؟).
الرواية الثالثة من تأليف توماس هاردي وهي « تحت شجرة غرينوود ». هذه هي الطريقة التي يبدأ بها المؤلف السرد في الجزء الأول ، الفصل 1 ، الصفحة 5: « لكل أنواع الأشجار تقريبًا صوتها وخصائصها بالنسبة إلى سكان الغابة. وأنين لا يقل وضوحًا عن الصخر ؛ الصفارات المقدسة وهي تقاتل نفسها ؛ الرماد يصفر وسط ارتجافه ؛ حفيف الزان بينما ترتفع أغصانه المسطحة وتسقط … « . إلا أن الرواية تنتهي بالاحتفال بزفاف بالقرب من شجرة قديمة في جو احتفالي.
أنا لا أتظاهر بأنني قد قرأت كل ما ورد. روايات هاردي. إنها المرة الأولى التي أصادف فيها رواية هاردي بنهاية سعيدة. أثناء قراءة الرواية التي أتحدث عنها ، كنت أخشى أن تواجه إحدى الشخصيات مصيرًا مأساويًا ومروعًا من حيث المصائب التي تميز
نهايات كتب هاردي.

اسمحوا لي أن أقول إنه لا يوجد شيء أكثر إحباطا

As long as there are trees in novels

You may know some trees that recall you something such as a story or an episode of your past you either cherish or hate. As long as there are trees. As long as there are novels. When I read novels, I like the description of landscapes and especially trees which are its main feature. I’d be hard pressed to name a dozen tree names, but novelists make me discover so many varieties. They are often old trees full of memories and giving the impression that they have always been there, that they are eternal and that human beings owe them respect and gratitude.
I will quote three novels which tell stories with trees and forests as their setting. The first one I read that obsessed me was « Roots » by Alex Haley (1921-1992). What dramatic events have taken place in the forests due to the barbaric practice of slavery! African men and women have watched helplessly a brutal end to a peaceful life. The enemy, to whom they should not have turned their backs, prevented them from achieving their dreams. Cruel scenes took place near these trees.
The second novel is « Into the Forest » by Jean Hegland. Too few happy events take place in this novel and the forest with its trees and animals represents the last refuge for the characters, the two sisters, who have survived the apocalypse (but for how long?).
The third novel is by Thomas Hardy and it is « Under The Greenwood Tree ». This is how the author begins the narration in the first part, chapter 1, page 5: « To dwellers in a wood almost every species of tree has its voice as well as its feature. At the passing of the breeze the fir-trees sob and moan no less distinctly than rock; the holly whistles as it battles with itself; the ashes hisses amid its quiverings; the beech rustles while its flat boughs rise and fall… ». However, the novel ends with the celebration of a wedding near an old tree in a festive atmosphere.
I do not pretend to have read all of Th. Hardy’s novels. It’s the first time I’ve come across a Hardy’s novel with a happy ending. While reading the novel I’m talking about, I was afraid that one of the characters might meet a tragic and appalling fate insofar as misfortunes characterize the ends of Hardy’s books.

Allow me to say that there is nothing more depressing than to learn that extremists uproot Palestinian olive trees. No people in there right mind would commit such crime.

Tant qu’il y aura des arbres dans les romans
J’aime, quand je lis des romans, la description des paysages et en particulier celles des arbres. Vous connaissez en peut-être qui vous rappellent quelque chose comme une histoire ou un épisode de votre passé que vous chérissez ou détestez. Ils constituent des personnages à part entière. j’aurais du mal à citer une dizaine de nom d’arbres mais les romanciers me font découvrir tant de variétés. Il s’agit souvent de vieux arbres chargés de souvenirs et donnant l’impression qu’ils ont toujours été là, qu’ils sont éternels et que les êtres humains leur doivent respect et gratitude.
Je citerai trois romans qui racontent des histoires ayant pour cadre des arbres et des forêts. Le premier dont la lecture m’a obsédé est « Roots » de Alex Haley (1921-1992). Que d’événements dramatiques dus à la pratique barbare de l’esclavage ont eu lieu dans les forêts ! Des hommes et des femmes ont assisté, impuissants, à une fin brutale d’une vie sereine. L’ennemi, auquel ils n’auraient pas dû tourner le dos, les a empêché d’accomplir leurs rêves. Des scènes cruelles ont eu lieu près de ces arbres.
Le deuxième roman est «Into the Forest» de Jean Hegland. Trop peu d’événements heureux ont lieu dans ce roman et la forêt avec ses arbres et ses animaux représente le dernier refuge pour les personnages, les deux sœurs, qui ont survécu (pour combien de temps encore?) à l’apocalypse.
Le troisième roman est celui de Thomas Hardy et il s’agit de «Under The Greenwood Tree». Voici comment l’auteur commence la narration dans la première partie, chapitre 1, page 5: «  Pour les habitants d’un bois, presque toutes les espèces d’arbres ont leur voix ainsi que leur caractéristique. Au passage de la brise, les sapins sanglotent et gémissent non moins distinctement que la roche; le houx siffle en se battant contre lui-même; les cendres sifflent au milieu de ses tremblements; le hêtre bruit tandis que ses branches plates montent et descendent … « ». Cependant, le roman se termine par la célébration d’un mariage près d’un vieil arbre dans une ambiance festive.
Je ne prétends pas avoir lu tous les romans de Th. Hardy. Pendant la lecture du roman dont je parle, j’éprouvais un sentiment de peur qu’il arrive malheur à quelques personnages comme cela est la règle. C’est la première fois où je tombe sur un roman de Hardy avec une fin heureuse.

Permettez-moi de dire qu’il n’y a rien de plus déprimant que d’apprendre que des extrémistes déracinent des oliviers palestiniens. Aucune personne saine d’esprit ne commettrait un tel crime.
