Mr Shneider: An outstanding craftsman

We were having free period at school in the morning and we saw many people heading towards the northern village entrance and gathering at some distance from the rather uncommon scene. Herd instinct or curiosity drove us to join the crowd.
Spectacular flood. The wadi is dry in summer. Back then, it was winter. The day before, that is to say Friday evening, a violent storm broke out and it started to rain heavily. The next day, Saturday morning, the river overflowed, it got out of its bed due to heavy rainfall. At the entrance to the village, there is a bridge. The current was so powerful that it had become almost impossible to cross it and there we saw cars trying to cross slowly so as not to be swept away by the current. A van tried his luck and took risks by wanting to cross. It was a striking sight. The more the van advanced, the more we saw that it was not resisting the current. It ended up being transported as if it were a cardboard box and its occupants were unable to get out. I was one of the onlookers who attended this show where nature always triumphs. We went back to school. What happened to the vehicle? One day, while walking, I was surprised to see Mr. Schneider driving the van. The wreckage was rolling again. The talented mechanic managed to repair the van which looked like a racing car. More precisely, there was still only the body and the engine. It was no less a thrilling spectacle than the first and everyone was in awe of the talent of this mechanic who managed to revive, so to speak, the van that was swept away by the current a few weeks ago.

Monsieur Shneider : Un artisan hors pair

Nous avions quelques heures creuses dans notre emploi du temps à l’école le matin et nous avons vu beaucoup de gens se diriger vers l’entrée nord du village et se rassembler à une certaine distance de la scène plutôt inhabituelle. L’instinct grégaire ou la curiosité nous ont amenés à rejoindre la foule.
Crue spectaculaire. L’oued est à sec en été. Nous sommes en hiver. La veille, c’est-à-dire le vendredi soir, un orage violent éclata et il s’est mis à pleuvoir des cordes. Le lendemain samedi matin, l’oued a débordé, il est sorti de son lit à cause des fortes précipitations. A l’entrée du village, il y a un pont. Le courant était tellement puissant qu’il était devenu presque impossible de le traverser et là on a vu des voitures tenter de traverser lentement pour ne pas être emportées par le courant. Un van a tenté sa chance et pris des risques en voulant traverser. C’était un spectacle saisissant. Plus le van avançait et plus on voyait qu’il ne résistait pas au courant. Il a fini par être transporté comme si c’était un carton et ses occupants n’ont pas réussi à sortir. Je faisais partie des badauds qui assistaient à ce spectacle où la nature triomphe toujours. Nous sommes repartis à l’école. Qu’est-ce que le véhicule est devenu? Un jour, en marchant j’étais surpris de voir monsieur Schneider au volant du van. L’épave roulait de nouveau. Le talentueux mécanicien a réussi à réparer le van qui ressemblait à une voiture de course. Plus précisément, il n’y avait encore que la carrosserie et le moteur. Ce n’était pas un spectacle moins saisissant que le premier et tout le monde était admiratif devant le talent de ce mécanicien qui est parvenu à redonner vie, pour ainsi dire, au petit camion emporté par le courant il y a quelques semaines.
